Bringing a baby into your world is a wonderful thing, but it does come with quite a few considerations, not least at which when it comes to your home. It stands to go through a lot of alterations in order to make it baby-safe, from the bathroom to the bedroom.
It is the latter that we’ll be focussing on today. Baby bedrooms offer a wealth of design options for youto consider, so we’ll be breaking down the essentials today, leaving the rest down to you.
Crib
The single most important item in the nursery, the crib should be the focal point of the whole room. There are many distinct styles, ranging from the ornate right up to the modern and minimalist. Which kind will suityour bedroom the best will depend upon the style you are aiming for.
We understand that cost is an important thing to consider too, given the financial burden a new child brings. The cot may be an expensive item, but it is one you stand to save money on. If you don’t want to buy a new one, there is a very big market for secondhand cribs, due to their short term usefulness for most families. If you are planning on having multiple kids, buying new may be a worthwhile option. But if it’s a “one and done” deal, go secondhand.
Rocker/Glider
If the cot isn’t doing the trick, you may need to rock your baby to sleep. That is where rockers and gliders come in. Rockers (rocking chairs), while they may not be made entirely of wood anymore, are what we would traditionally picture in this scenario. But gliders, which have a more gentle rocking action, are slightly more contemporary.
Both are now available in a concealed form, so that the rocker or glider looks, for all intents and purposes, like a normal chair, with the mechanism hidden underneath. This means that, should you be going for the ultramodern look, you’ll be able to pull it off without a big wooden chair ruining everything.
Dresser
As the nursery may be too small for a wardrobe, and considering that buying a new one may be a little excessive given how small the clothes are, getting a dresser may be the best idea. These can help to store everything you could need, from clothes to nappies to all the other things that babies require.
Find one that doubles as a changing table, and you’ll be solving two problems at once and saving further room. Plus, when your little one is all grown up, you can repurpose the cabinet for another room with no hassle.
