Messy house? Quick & Easy Tips to Help Keep It Clean

If you’re always on the run (and a working mom as well), you may find your home a complete mess one day. You know the scenario: you can’t get rid of the chaos during the workweek, or you’re trying to, and end up exhausted and unmotivated to clean. If you don’t have enough time to accomplish a big house cleaning in one go, there are two possible options. The first is cleaning your home every day for 15-20 minutes, and the second is hiring someone to help you.

To make this task easier, create a weekly (or monthly) cleaning plan and assign all family members to at least one chore a day. You can just leave the more demanding chores for the weekend or when all family members can jump in to help. Always think about which things are the most urgent ones and create a checklist according to this evaluation. This will prevent chores from piling up.

Some essential cleaning tasks include tidying up the mess, dusting, vacuuming, and bathroom and kitchen cleaning (toilet, sinks, and the shower). Since these take a lot of time (and these surfaces get filthy on a daily basis), it leaves little time for complex and time-consuming activities such as washing the windows, scrubbing the oven or removing limescale.

Decluttering is the first thing to do - before you start cleaning, you should get rid of all the things that are scattered around and put them into place (this is a tiresome task if you have small kids). What about stuff that you haven’t used for quite a long time? Donate, sell or throw it in the trash - but don’t let those things stand in your way while you clean. If you do this properly, you won’t have to do it again soon, so it’s wise to set aside some time for doing this first.

An unmade bed will make your room look untidy even if it’s thoroughly cleaned and organized. Also, changing linens frequently is a must. Kitchen, bathroom and toilet are rooms where you have the biggest chance to come into contact with grime, so make sure that these parts of your house are always clean. If you do this daily - it won’t take much time. Instead of heavy scrubbing, just gently clean these surfaces with eco-friendly solutions and don’t forget to work from the top to down.

In some cases, you can’t find enough time to do housework and clean up the mess. As a result, you’ll probably want to hire a professional to do this for you. This isn’t a bad idea at all, since your time (even if you have it) costs money. Most of the time I’d rather pay someone to clean my home and spend some quality time with my kids instead. Sometimes, I do enjoy tidying up - but mostly when I try to include my kids in this activity and make it fun.

If you need to hire a professional, there are two options: individual cleaners and cleaning companies. Whomever you choose, you should ask them whether they are charging by the hour or by tasks (some cleaners are charging extra for more complex stuff such as scrubbing the oven). Also, you may want to hire professionals for difficult tasks such as washing carpets, tile and grout cleaning, duct cleaning, etc. You can find lots of listswith questions you need to ask your cleaning service - feel free to use them, they are extremely helpful!
