How to organise your home

For a happy home, a comfortable home, a home you can just relax in, you need an organised home. Organising your home has a number of benefits:

l  You will find it is much easier to keep your home looking clean and tidy, which is great for those unexpected visits we all receive from time to time.
l  Your home will be much safer for your family, the dangerous things will be stored away and there will be less tripping hazards.
l  You will know where things are, meaning you’ll waste less time searching for things you can’t find.
l  You will utilise the space available to you more efficiently.

It is simple to organise your home, the first time you do it will take the longest, thereafter all you need to do it keep on top of it.  Simply go through each room in your house systematically, the first thing you should do is de-clutter, get rid of anything you don’t need, want or use and keep only the things you use regularly, that are in a good state of repair, and that you can store somewhere out of the way.

The Living Room:  in the living room avoid clutter, avoid having things like magazines, newspapers and remote controls laying around.  Buy something to store these loose bits in, such as a coffee table with a draw underneath. Try not to have any toys or things for your pet in the living room, designate another room for these.

The Kitchen: this is one of, if not the most dangerous room in the house, which is exactly why you should organise it properly. Try to store as much as possible and have as little on display as you can, keep all sharp tools such as knives, out of reach of children.  Use extra space saving ideas, like a fold out shelf to add extra space into your cupboards to enable you to put more things away.

The Bathroom: again, this can be another dangerous room, with sharp razor blades, medicines and chemicals that could be hazardous.  Consider buying a wall unit that you can attach to the wall where you can store things like razor blades and medicines, not only making the room safer for your family, but also organising the space thus utilising it more. Buy a hamper to home things like towels, if you don’t have an airing cupboard, and use things like a toilet roll holder to house your spare toilet rolls, rather than leaving them loose where they could be a potential tripping hazard But a toothbrush holder for your brushes and paste, simple things like this do not cost much, but they make it easier to organise your room.

The Bedroom(s): the main thing to do in this room is put things away, make sure all of your clothes, shoes and coats can be kept inside your wardrobe and have bedside tables to store anything else you may need in the bedroom.  Tidy away toys in children’s rooms, considering buying something like a toy box to store toys in, the main thing to do in any bedroom is de-clutter.

Follow these simple tips to organising your home and you’ll be surprised at the results.
