With the expense of pretty much everything being sky high at the moment, people are less and less willing to pay for jobs that they feel that they may be able to do themselves. When it comes to home improvement, there is a huge amount that you can do yourself, and the term DIY tends to relate to the field of doing things around the home. Laying flooring is not something that many people get on with themselves however, despite the wide range of options that can be found for those who feel like they might have a crack at it. If you are thinking of making your place look incredible then you may well need some training, as a lot of the finer finishes are rather hard to do yourself, especially if you are on your own. That said, doing a good job of some of the following options may well set you in good stead to get the place looking amazing!
Carpet tiles.
If you were thinking that wall to wall carpets may be a look that you wanted to go for, and might be able to do yourself, you should perhaps have another think about it! The fact is, carpet takes a lot of effort to maneuver around, especially if you are doing a big room, and the process of cutting it to size can be seriously tricky. On top of that, one wrong move with the stanley knife, and you may have made a mess of a whole section, so it can get expensive if you make a mistake! Carpet tiles are easy to fit to the room, simple to lay, and can be replaced individually to replace stained ones! These cheaper options come in square sections, that are placed next to each other and stuck to each other, rather than the surface below, with adhesive dots. Whilst you may be worrying about the lines that the joins will cause, you should be able to brush the carpet pile together in the joining sections, so that the cracks are not visible.
Linoleum
Linoleum flooring has been developed in to a much thicker sheeting than it once was, and this means that you can lie it without having to glue it to the under flooring at all! The thickness means that it is comfortable to walk on, but is also hard wearing and long lasting. You simply remove your skirting boards, and make up a trace of the edges of the room with paper, being very accurate, and then cut the linoleum to size, and put it in place! The weight of the stuff keeps it put, and you will no doubt find that it makes for a very nice finish that is easy to clean!
Engineered flooring gives you all the benefits of wooden floor boards, but without the hassle of nails, glue, sanding or finishing. These boards are made up of composite materials, top with a hard wearing veneer that can be of different thicknesses, depending on how much you can afford and how long you need it to last. The boards fit together with a clever interlocking system which is easy to work out, and you will not need to nail it at all! The finish should be great for those who love wooden floorboards, but need it to be easy and to last a long, long time! You may need to do some tricky cutting around certain corners, but if you are clever in how you put it down int the first place, there should be no trouble!
