Who doesn’t like packing and moving? Don’t you just love the stress, organization, complications, packing, driving and unpacking? Everyone nervous and sad, saying goodbye to your old neighborhood and settling in the new one... You cannot prevent mishaps from happening nor can you avoid sadness of goodbyes, but what you can do is reduce the stress levels and making the process of moving away easier by planning in advance and thinking ahead. Let’s go through some of the things you could do to make your life easier while moving.
1.Start planning in advance
Remember that you cannot control time and that things can happen which will make you slow down or speed things up. Once you realize there are things which cannot be planned in advance no matter how hard you tried, you can allow yourself to relax. If, however, you want to be a hundred percent sure that everything is prepared, plan things at least eight weeks in advance to avoid unnecessary frustration and stress.
2.Throw away everything you don’t really need
This is a very difficult and responsible thing to do. Start by first browsing through and later carefully examining every room in the house and throwing away everything you don’t want to carry to your new place. Think about everything carefully – do you really need everything you want to keep or are you keeping it because of sentimental value it has to you? If you keep all the small details and papers you will end up buried under unnecessary junk. Be firm and practical.
3.Packing boxes are important
Things have changed in the last few years – boxes are not only boxes. There are now many different types of packing boxes available on the market and you should choose them carefully. So, decide what you really want and need to carry to your new place and it will help you pick up packing supplies . Big packing boxes for clothes and bulkier things and file boxes with handles for files and books. Bear in mind that boxes should be neither over-packed nor almost-empty because they might burst or collapse under pressure of other boxes during transport. Also, it might be a good idea to pack into separate boxes all the things which you will need immediately after moving so you can find them easily. You will want to pack them in clear boxes too so you can see everything.
4.Label everything
First of all, pack those things which you will not need right away such as decorative items, vases and paintings. Boxes should be clearly labelled on all four sides since this will save you a lot of time when unpacking. This way you will find what you need easily when you need it and not lose your cool. What you also would want t do is label the room each box should go to so you don’t lose your time when the time for unpacking comes. Remember, you are going to live among boxes and junk for quite some time; it will be nice to know where your slippers and pet food are.
